The Ministry of Transport has given the green light to the implementation of GrabTaxi services in three provinces, including Thanh Hóa, An Giang and Đắk Nông.
After Grab announced the launch of GrabTaxi in Khanh Hoa, the provincial Department of Transport said operation of the ride hailing services firm was not licensed in the central province.
The General Department of Taxation recently sent a document requesting the HCM City Department of Taxation to collect data to inspect tax payment of Uber B.V Netherlands Co., Ltd and GrabTaxi Co., Ltd.
The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN) has suggested that Uber and
Grab taxis should have signs on their cars to differentiate them from
conventional taxis.
While Uber and GrabTaxi are seeing rapid expansion in Viet Nam,
traditional taxis are seeking to utilise modern technologies to help
lower fees and improve connections with passengers.
The Ha Noi Transport Association has suggested that Uber and Grabtaxi
services should be suspended to ensure equal competition between them
and the normal taxi firms.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the Transport Ministry''s
pilot project on "Application of information technology in supporting
the management and connection of commercial passenger transportation by
contract" (GrabCar).
The Ministry of Transport has asked the Government to permit pilot
implementation of a project to apply information technology in the
management of contract-based passenger transportation (Grabcar)
developed by GrabTaxi Vietnam.
GrabTaxi, Southeast Asia''s largest taxi-booking app, has announced that
it has received more than US$350 million from US-based Coatue
Management, China Investment Corporation, and Didi Kuaidi, China''s
biggest taxi app firm.
